Principal | Helen Butler
It is with much humbleness, excitement and privilege that I introduce myself to you as the Principal of Keilor Views Primary School 2018. As most of you will be aware, my appointment to this role came on the very last day of the school year in 2017, leaving little opportunity for me to formally address the school community.
I felt very welcomed joining the KVPS community last year as Assistant Principal and look forward to continuing our positive relationship in this new role. During these past few days as the 2018 school year has started, I have had many positive interactions with parents, students and our community, and it is an honor for me to lead the school moving forward, alongside such an amazing staff.
Growing up in the western suburbs, my life was deeply enhanced by my classroom teachers and not only did they provide me with a sound foundation, they inspired me to realize that an education is more than just interacting with letters and numbers, it is about building positive relationships and activating student voice in learning.
My education consists of a Bachelor’ Degree of Education, and I am currently studying a Master’s Degree in International Education Policy at Melbourne University. I have 18 years’ experience in both Primary and Secondary cross-sector school settings. I have held positions in education at a school, network and region and system level as a teacher, instructional coach, network improvement coordinator and school leader. I have spent the last 4 years prior to my appointment at KVPS as an education consultant building the capacity of teachers, schools and system leaders to improve the academic progress and achievement for all learners across Australia. I have a strong understanding of educational research and highly effective evidence-based practices that make a difference to the outcomes of learners.
My passion is every learner, every teacher, and every school and if I were to choose my super power, it would be to ‘activate learning’. I believe at Keilor Views PS our greatest initiative will be to continue to work together to provide differentiated learning opportunities for each learner and inspire and challenge our learners with engaging experiences. I am confident, that together, we can continue to provide our learners with an environment that will encourage them to learn, be creative, grow and develop in to positive global citizens.
I look forward to continuing to foster these relationships and working as a learning community to provide positive educational experiences for each learner at Keilor Views Primary School in 2018.
